Julie Berry's Bio

I'm the youngest of seven children, born and raised in Western New York. I attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York , earning a B.S. in communication with a minor in literature.

There I met my husband, and we married during my last semester. We were NOT pregnant at the time. Simply broke. Only by marrying could we get a refund of his housing costs, and I wanted it to pay off my credit card. No lie; I married him for his dorm money.

Ten years and four boys later, he continues to pay off my credit cards. This in spite of the fact that I have worked in technical writing, marketing communications, sales, and training for a number of high-tech startups, all of which are now defunct. The only company on my resume that remains is a venture capital company that devours high-tech startups for lunch.

I've always wanted to write for fun & profit, but it wasn't until August of 2004 when a dear friend gave me a much-needed nudge that I began writing humor columns. Rick Holmes, the Opinion Editor at the MetroWest Daily News was kind enough to give me a shot and start printing me as a local columnist, and that's where I am today, feeling incredibly pretentious as I write this bio.
